The word sustainability originates from the Latin word sustinere, "To sustain" can mean to maintain, support, uphold or endure and this term is often interlinked with environmental sustainability to label the work done to help people safely co-exist on planet earth over a long time. Decade after decade people have caused catastrophic damage to the environment but with the increases in technology over the last 40 years bringing to light what we have done to our planet, efforts for environmental sustainability have drastically increased year on year. The concept of environmental sustainability really kicked into action in the 60s-70s with the first ever national Earth day being celebrated in 1970 and ever since people have been fighting across the globe to reduce our carbon footprint.
In the modern world, it is becoming increasingly more important to become sustainable as a business for a plethora of reasons which cannot be missed out on. Year on year more emphasis is being pushed onto businesses to think green and because of this In 2022 sustainability became one of the biggest worldwide trends available for businesses to utilise. From this, businesses that have leaned into the trend and have invested in sustainable products and run sustainably are seeing exponential growth in sales and huge boosts in reputation. In our latest back-to-school campaign we found out that sustainable back-to-school shoppers spend 22% more on average and 50% of back-to-school shoppers choose sustainable products whenever it is possible which shows the power of choosing sustainability.
The value of sustainability for businesses has been highlighted above but it must be mentioned that it is just as important for businesses to make sure they are doing it right or it can seriously backfire. According to the Sustainable Products Corporation, sustainable products “provide environmental, social, and economic benefits while protecting public health, welfare, and environment over their full commercial cycle, from the extraction of raw materials to final disposal.”

Wild Thang is also ISO 14001 certified which legitimizes our commitment to our acts toward sustainability as a business.
We highlight in our happy Earth day blog how the facilities are complete with electric charging points & cycle shelter in our car park and a number of electric vehicles already in our fleet, we have LED auto switch-off lights throughout WT HQ and recycling facilities throughout the building. Wild Thang also has a number of other exciting environmental initiatives in the pipeline which include more charging points to be fitted, solar panels that will reduce our carbon footprint for the long term, a tree planting campaign that will help the wider planet and we will also be starting the process of becoming a Certified B Corporation we will keep you updated as we make progress as an organisation. Finally and maybe most importantly it’s our aim in the future that eventually all come from sustainable or carbon natural sources which is what is also why we have a target of being completely carbon neutral by 2030.
