Wild Thang was delighted to support Weapons Down Gloves Up

Wild Thang was happy to support Weapons Down Gloves Up initiative, it is an amazing cause which we are glad we could get behind. We helped out by supplying a dual branded Wild Thang x WDGU Umbro Teamwear kit for Ormskirk West End FC.

Ormskirk West End FC

WDGU is a fantastic boxing initiative based around the S.E.E acronym - Sports, Education and Employment. The program focus on unemployed young people that have left school/college within the age categories between 19 and 25 years old. Companies can partner up with WDGU as part of their CSR and recruit accredited staff through Civil Engineering Careers. A key aim of the program is to turn young people in difficult environments away from crime, in particularly knife crime and turn them towards Sports, Education and Employment.

A huge part of WDGU is getting the young people on board and into boxing, the aim behind this is that being emersed in the boxing culture they develop positive traits such as attitude, respect, coping skills and discipline

The city of Liverpool, along with all major UK cities, has a huge problem with knife crime and with this right on our doorstep it is vital we react as a community and not just leave it to local authorities. Just recently the whole city of was left in shock after the death of 12-year old Ava White in the city centre, this is something we can’t turn a blind eye to and programs like WDGU are on the front line fighting these issues and are looking for support.

The scheme is rapidly growing in popularity and already has a list of world-renowned ambassadors such as Tony Bellew, Jamie Carragher, Molly McCann and John May. All of these major ambassadors are from Liverpool and believe the scheme can have a huge impact on the city.

Company Director, John Howarth commented: “With Wild Thang being a local Liverpool company ourselves, who employ 50+ local people and have staff who have been with us since completing their apprenticeships, we thought it was a great fit for us and wanted to get involved.

We worked with one of the WDGU Ambassadors and long-time friend of Wild Thang, Tony Bellew, to create the Umbro kit which will be worn by the West End lads during the course of this season, it will be dual branded with Wild Thang x WDGU. We are also an official distributor of Umbro Teamwear kits which gives us a great opportunity to work with amazing brands and show off our world class quality but also gives us the chance to support projects like this.”
